My Plan

Hi. I just wanted your advice on how good my exercise, nutrition and supplementation really is. I am 17 years old and attend high school. I workout for at least 1 hour and 30 min. to 2 hours a day, for 6 days a week. I’m currently trying to become more lean for “beach season”, so I watch my calorie, fat and carb intake, while as my protein intake stays the same. Here’s what i eat everyday:

Morning: 1 cup cereal (healthy kind), yogurt, muffin, 1 cup low fat milk

Snack: protein bar

Pre-workout: creatine, protein shake

Post-workout: protein shake, tuna sandwich, banana, 1 pack gummy bears *my post-workout is also my lunch, due to my schedule.

Snack: granola bar or 100 cal. snack

Dinner: never the same, but it’s always something healthy that contains protein, veggies, etc.

My Workout is the SHOWTIME Workout from the MUSCLE & FITNESS JULY 09 magazine.

A: I think your program looks good, but I need a bit more info to really help you.

1) How long have you been doing the Showtime workout? 2) Are you making gains in size or reducing bodyfat, or both 3) Do you feel overtrained, or ready to hit each training session like a mad dog?

If you can send me these answers I can help you a bit more. I will say the Showtime program is very intense, and it seems you are spending a long time at the gym for each workout. So, if you are losing bodyfat and muscle, make sure you protein intake is at least 1 gram per pound of lean bodyweight, and if you are not getting leaner, try to cut back on your training (if your protein is in line) as you may be over reaching and thus causing your body to hold onto bodyfat as a survival mechanism.
