I've read alot of the workout tips for beginners but the question is what weights (lbs) should I be starting at?

Depending on your comfort level of the exercise and technique it can vary. More complex movements like squats , shoulder presses and multijoint movements do 50-60% of your max of what you think you can donfocusing on form and technique. Other sinlge joint like bicep curls go for your assumed weight but still watch all the workout 101 vids I have on the site to understand technique
