Calorie Intake

I struggle with knowing what calorie intake I should have. I see where you recommend 10-15 cals/lb of body weight. Since my goal is to lose weight(specially lose fat and not my lean muscle), should stay closer to the 10cals/lb of weight? Also, should I stay heavier on the protein side? or does that ratio matter? Thanks for your input!
