proper spotting techniques

Hi Mike,

I was recently asked to spot somebody doing a heavy bench press and squat but wasnt sure if I did it correctly. Is there a certain technique used for spotting on these two particular exercises? Id greatly appreciate any tips you have! Thanks

Usually just be there and only start to assist if the bar is not moving upward or falling down. Use your fingers and then if you need to pull it up, grab it and rack it for them.
