The Alternating Dumbbell bench press helps with overcoming strength imbalances in the chest due to Bi Lateral Training. The one thing about this movement when performing on a bench is that is really forces you to focus on a slower more focused pattern of movement which will definitely help you not only improve your technique but by doing so you will actually build more muscle. This is a great exercises to throw into a program for a few weeks and then go back to the DB bench press with both arms and you will find that you will become much stronger.
