The main difference in the Dumbbell front lunge vs. the barbell front lunge is that the weight from the dumbbells shift forward in a pendulum fashion which displays just enough that the front quads are emphasized more on the push back up than when using a barbell which keeps the weigh back centered and behind the body. As you step make sure that your foot stays firmly planted with the heel down.
